New York -- Ford Motor Company was honored with the "Business Turnaround of the Year for Companies with More Than 2,500 Employees" award last night at the 2010 American Business Awards. The event was held in New York City at the Marriott Marquis Hotel with more than 500 in attendance.
"It was an honor for Ford to be recognized among the best companies in American business," said Bill Collins, New York regional manager, who accepted the award. "Several attendees extended their congratulations last night to the Ford team for getting the company turned around."
The award recognizes the continued efforts of the ONE Ford plan which allowed Ford to weather a global storm in 2009, with the looming economic and financial crisis as well as the unprecedented events in the U.S. automotive industry.
In 2009, Ford saw its first positive net income since 2005 and gained market share in the U.S. for the first time in 14 years, despite increasing competition for buyers.
Established in 2002, the awards raise awareness of the positive contributions of companies and business people. The honor is also known as the "Stevie" award. Stevie is taken from the name Stephen, which is derived from the Greek word for "crowned."
More than 200 executives from across the country evaluate the more than 2,700 entries for the Stevie awards. The Stevie is presented annually to the best entries in 40 categories, including management, customer service, marketing, human resources communications, information technology and sales.
