Lincoln Celebrates the Art of American Photographer Herb Ritts at the Getty MuseumLos Angeles, April 3, 2012 – Lincoln is the exclusive sponsor of Herb Ritts: L.A. Style, an exhibition presenting one of America’s greatest photographers, at one of America’s great art centers, the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The exhibition opened on the evening of Monday, April 2 with a special VIP preview and reception.
“As we return Lincoln to celebrating the best of premium values, the celebration of the photographic values that made Herb Ritts one of the world’s most renowned photographers is a natural choice for us,” said Jim Peters, Lincoln manager of Brand Content and Alliances. “His elegant, modern and sophisticated style matches exactly our focus in the reinvention of the Lincoln brand.”
The exhibition opened on the same day of the reveal of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ, the first all-new vehicle in the reinvention of the Lincoln brand. The reveal of the 2013 Lincoln MKZ took place at both the Getty Center and a preview in New York City.
The precision and styling of Ritts’ work made him one of the most influential artists of the 1980s and ’90s. His transformational work with Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell and Stephanie Seymour helped to define the era of the supermodel.
The “Herb Ritts: LA Style” exhibit will include highlights of the photographer’s work and span his career. Additionally, Lincoln is underwriting a special 10-minute documentary film that complements the exhibition by sharing insights into the artist and his work with commentary from some of his collaborators and subjects.
Ritts's distinctive aesthetic can also be seen in his directorial projects -- videos and commercials. Some of his most memorable television ads were for Calvin Klein, Guy Laroche, and Lancôme. His portfolio of thirteen music videos includes Janet Jackson’s iconic “Love Will Never Do Without You” and “Wicked Game” by Chris Isaak featuring supermodel Helena Christensen—both of which won MTV Video Music Awards.
