Insurance Institute For Highway Safety Names 2017 Lincoln MKZ, MKX Top Safety Picks

In the beginning of December, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety named the Lincoln MKZ and MKX top safety picks. The Lincoln MKZ was the midsize luxury car winner and the Lincoln MKX was the midsize luxury SUV winner. To determine what vehicle would win the top safety pick, the IIHS conducts several crash vehicle tests to determine how well the  vehicle protects its passengers during a collision. They also rate a vehicle's front-crash prevention- systems that warn the driver or brake automatically to avoid or lessen the severeness of a frontal crash.

To qualify for the 2017 Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must earn top notch ratings in a variety of safety tests. These include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, head restraints and a rating for frontal crash prevention.

If the driver does not respond on time, pre-charged brakes and increased brake sensitivity assist the driver to fully respond. Another safety program the MKZ and MKX feature include a lane-keeping system, a blind spot information system, and an auto hold feature.
